I am a language coach passionate about empowering learners and building cultural bridges.
Hi, I'm Liv. I work with clients and learners who want to improve their communication skills in English, fulfill their potential, and engage with those from different cultures in a more empathetic and authentic way. I am a true believer in the transformative power of language learning for personal growth and for developing deeper intercultural relationships.
The understandings that guide my language coaching:
-
Language learning is more than acquiring new linguistic knowledge (words, grammar, etc), it is a lived personal experience that engages your mind, body and social surroundings. A learner's awareness of their interests, motivations, attitudes, beliefs, and emotions are all key aspects of the learning experience. I provide a safe environment where learners can explore the beliefs that are maladaptive and stopping them from enjoying the language journey.
-
Language learning involves understanding new and complex socio-cognitive patterns and this is a challenge for your brain. I rely on empirical research of the mind (neurocognition) and humanistic approaches that help learners gain cognitive and cultural awareness that enhances their learning journey and allows them to become more effective, authentic and empathetic communicators.
-
Learning is successful only when you have clarified your goals, focused on effort and learned to use your time wisely and productively. I hold learners accountable for their part of the process.

A little bit of my educational background:
I have a BA in Psychology from the University of South Florida, which included a minor in Sociology. I went on to get a BA in TEFL and British and American Literature from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul when I returned home from my stay in the United States. After becoming a language educator, I also undertook a postgraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavior from the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. After years of being away from the classroom in order to raise my daughter, I decided I wanted to delve into the world of language learning and its deep connection to culture and identity. I've recently completed the 'MA Education: Culture, Language and Identity' from Goldsmiths' University of London.
